At the time of its launch, Disney Channel was a premium channel that aired for 16 hours a day, from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. The channel's programming during its run as a premium channel, carrying through to its transition to a basic cable channel, targeted children and teenagers during the daytime, families during primetime and adults at night.

The Disney Channel launched nationally on Apat 7am ET with the Disney Channel-produced series Good Morning, Mickey!.
